1. How the renewal stock check works
When a subscriber's renewal comes up, Sublyra reads stock live from Shopify at charge time. If there isn't enough to cover the renewal, your chosen out-of-stock behaviour kicks in. If stock can't be read at all, the charge goes ahead — a monitoring hiccup should never block revenue.
Where to find it: Sublyra admin → Settings → Inventory policy.
read_inventory permission. If the page shows an amber banner, click Grant access and approve on Shopify's screen.
2. Pick the out-of-stock behaviour
One choice governs every renewal Sublyra charges. Pick the option that matches how you fulfil:
| Option | What happens | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Skip the renewal order | The order is marked skipped and the customer is not charged. The subscription stays active and renews on the next cycle. | Stores that restock on a predictable rhythm and don't want to take money they can't fulfil. |
| Continue selling (oversell) | Charge and fulfil anyway, like Shopify does today. | Stores that restock fast, dropship, or sell made-to-order. |
| Pause the subscription | The charge is skipped and the subscription is paused until you resume it. Prevents repeated failed fulfilment. | Long or uncertain stock-outs where skipping one cycle isn't enough. |
1 Open Settings → Inventory policy.
2 Under When a renewal product is out of stock, select one of the three behaviours.
3 Click Save inventory policy. It applies to renewal charges Sublyra runs from now on.
3. Low-stock warnings & merchant emails
Get ahead of stock-outs instead of discovering them in a skipped order.
1 Tick Warn me when stock runs low and set the low stock threshold — you get warned when a subscription product dips to that many units. The level is checked when a renewal charge runs.
2 Tick Email me about skipped, paused or low-stock renewals to get an email at your shop contact address whenever a renewal is skipped, paused, or flagged low-stock by the policy.
3 Save the policy.
4. What this policy governs
Shopify runs the automatic renewal charge itself, and that charge can't be intercepted by any app. This policy is enforced on the renewal charges Sublyra creates — smart-retry attempts — and is designed so a scheduled pre-renewal check can reuse the same decision logic.
5. FAQ
Does "skip" cancel the subscription?
No. The subscription stays active and simply renews on the next cycle. Only the pause option changes the subscription's status — and you can resume it any time.
Which behaviour should I choose?
If you restock quickly or make products to order, oversell — it's what Shopify does by default. If a stock-out means real fulfilment pain, skip. Reserve pause for products that might be gone for weeks.
Where do the merchant emails go?
To your shop contact email address — the one on your Shopify store. There is nothing extra to configure.
The stock check doesn't seem to run. Why?
Most often the read_inventory permission hasn't been granted. Open Settings → Inventory policy and look for the amber Grant access banner. See Troubleshooting for the full list.
