Quantity breaks

Volume discounts for bigger carts — buy 3+, save 10% · buy 5+, save 15%.

1. What quantity breaks are Starter plan and above

A quantity break is a volume discount: the more of a product the shopper buys, the bigger the discount. You define tiers — buy 3+, save 10%; buy 5+, save 15% — and Sublyra backs each tier with a real automatic discount in Shopify. At checkout, the best tier the cart qualifies for applies itself. No discount codes, no manual work.

On the storefront, the Quantity breaks theme block shows the tier table on the product page and highlights the tier the shopper's current quantity reaches, so the incentive to add one more is always visible.

Plan note: quantity breaks are part of the bundles feature family, included from the Starter plan up. Stores on the free Launch plan can't save. See pricing.

2. Create a quantity break

1 In the Sublyra admin, go to Settings → Quantity breaks.

2 In the Create a quantity break card, choose the scope — which products get the tier table:

ScopeWhat it covers
All productsEvery product in the store gets the tier table.
Specific productsOnly the products you pick with Choose products.
CollectionsEvery product in the collections you pick with Choose collections.

3 Give it a name — it's shown as the heading above the storefront tier table (for example, "Stock up & save").

4 Set the tiers (see the rules below). The form starts you with a sensible default — buy 3+ save 10%, buy 5+ save 15% — adjust quantities and percentages, and use Add tier for more.

5 Click Create quantity break. Saving creates one automatic discount per tier and snapshots the product-to-tiers map into the storefront metafield.

6 Place the Quantity breaks block on your product template (section 5).

The discount fires at checkout on its own. The tier table is purely presentational — each tier is backed by a real automatic discount, so the price the table advertises is the price the shopper pays, whether or not they ever looked at the table.

3. Tier rules

RuleDetail
Number of tiersBetween 2 and 5 per quantity break.
Tier quantityAt least 2, and every quantity must be unique — two tiers can't share a quantity.
Tier discountA percentage between 1% and 99%.
OrderingTiers are sorted by quantity on save. Keep savings ascending with quantity — the shopper always gets the best tier they qualify for.

Example: with tiers 3+ → 10% and 5+ → 15%, a cart with 4 units gets 10% off; a cart with 5 or more gets 15% off. The shopper never has to choose — the highest qualifying tier wins automatically.

4. Scopes and the product cap

Collection scopes are expanded to individual products when you save — Sublyra resolves the collection's members and stores the product list behind the tier table. Two consequences:

New product not getting the discount? If it was added to a scoped collection after you saved, this is why — re-save the quantity break and it picks the product up.

5. The Quantity breaks theme block

1 In Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.

2 Open a product template (the block works on product pages — it shows the tiers for the product being viewed).

3 Click Add block → Apps → Quantity breaks and place it near the buy buttons.

4 Save the theme. The block now renders the tier table on any product covered by an active quantity break — and nothing at all on products that aren't covered.

Behaviour on the page:

6. Edit, deactivate, delete

ActionEffect
EditLoads the configuration back into the form. Saving re-syncs the tier discounts and the storefront map — use it after changing collection membership or product prices.
DeactivateHides the tier table from the storefront and pauses every tier discount. The setup is kept — switch it back on any time.
DeleteRemoves the tier table and deletes all of its automatic discounts from Shopify, for good.
Permission note: tier discounts need the write_discounts scope, requested on the install screen. If an amber "Additional permission needed" banner appears at the top of the page, click Grant access, approve on Shopify's screen, and save again.

7. FAQ

Do quantity breaks work with subscriptions?

Quantity breaks are automatic discounts on the products in the cart. Whether they combine with a subscription's selling-plan pricing follows Shopify's discount-combination rules — place a test order on your store to confirm the final checkout numbers before promoting both on the same product.

Can different products have different tiers?

Yes. Create one quantity break per tier structure, scoped to specific products or collections. A product shows the tier table of the quantity break that covers it.

What if a shopper buys 10 units but my highest tier is 5+?

They get the best tier they qualify for — the 5+ discount applies to the purchase. Tiers are "at least" thresholds, not brackets.

Why did my tier table disappear from a product?

Three common causes: the quantity break was deactivated, the product was removed from a scoped collection (re-save the quantity break after collection changes), or the block isn't on that product template. Check Settings → Quantity breaks first — the status badge tells you if it's active.

I want shoppers to pick different products for a multi-item discount instead.

That's a build-a-box bundle — see Bundles & build-a-box. Quantity breaks discount multiples of the same product; bundles discount a mix of products.
